Food Banks Needs a bit more Giving in Thanksgiving

Cobourg: Thanksgiving is the time of family, fall colours, and great dinners. Unfortunately, not everyone has this to look forward to.
Fare Share Food Banks requires your help. This year we are happy to say there are so many ways to give. Fare Share wishes to remind people that they can always drop food off at each major grocer in the area. All of them have large bins at checkout. Large “FRESH” fruit and vegetable quantities resulting from additional bounty at your farm, farm stall or garden will happily be received – please call Fare Share and we’ll be happy to pick up. Fare Share will be hosting food drive like the “Stuff the Bus” campaign October 4 at Davis Independent Grocers. People are encouraged to give online – www.fareshare.ca/donate - as our dollar often has greater purchasing power.
This year, more people suffer from lack of employment and hardship of maintaining a home. Others don’t even have a home and left to their own resources to find shelter for the evening, which includes sleeping on the beach.
A poor economy, higher food prices, and lack of affordable housing all present obstacles for those less fortunate. Each gift of a non-perishable, cash donations or additional fresh garden bounty all helps to meet the needs of those requiring food.
If you are in need of relief, please come to our food bank in Port Hope, Wednesday’s 10am - Noon or 6pm - 8pm or in Cobourg, Wednesday’s from 10am - 1pm and 6pm - 8pm or Friday from 10am - 1pm.
