How to become an Auxiliary Volunteer
Download an application form, or pick one up in person at the hospital Inquiry Desk or at Petticoat Lane (25 Munroe Street, Cobourg).

Once your application is received the Manager, Volunteers or designate will contact you.
Next Steps
You will:
- be scheduled for an interview
- be taken on a tour of the hospital
- be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement
- select your area(s) of interest
- have your photo taken for an ID badge
Prerequisites
For the interview:
- Current police check is required
Note: In order to obtain a police check, an authorization letter is required. Please contact the Auxiliary Office at 905.372.6811 ext. 4630 for this letter
Before starting a shift in the hospital:
- A completed Health Review Form must be submitted (Petticoat Lane is optional). Please contact the Auxiliary Office at 905-372-6811, ext. 4630 for details.
Starting Your Volunteering/Service
You will:
- have orientation/training in the Service Area
- be assigned a shift(s)
- volunteer 2-4 hours/shift and a minimum of 2 shifts/month
- record your volunteer hours accordingly
Student Volunteers
Senior high school and post-secondary students are welcome as volunteers at NHH. This provides a valuable learning experience in a busy and active hospital environment particularly for those students considering a career in Life Sciences or as a Health Care Professional.
Next Steps
You will:
- be scheduled for an interview
- be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement
- select your area(s) of interest
- be given a tabard and crests on loan
- be issued an ID badge
Prerequisites
- High School Students must be at least 16 years of age
- A current police check for students 18 years and older is required. Note: In order to obtain a police check, an authorization letter is required. Please contact the Auxiliary Office at 905.372.6811 ext. 4630 for this letter
- Up-to-date vaccination record
Starting Your Volunteering/Service
You will:
- have orientation/training in the Service Area
- be assigned a shift(s)
- volunteer 2-4 hours/shift and a minimum of 2 shifts/month
- record your volunteer hours accordingly
In return for your commitment and energy you will:
- gain first-hand experience of the health care sector
- explore your own role in the health care sector
- discover your skills, talents and potential
- provide a valuable service to your community
- receive a letter recording your hours at the end of the school year
