Peter Hills, Manager Fare Share Food Banks Port Hope Picks Up Contributions from Cram-A-Cruiser Event

Port Hope: The 3rd running of the Port Hope Police's Cram-A-Cruiser possibly the most successful to date. With the participation of Port Hope Metro, Giant Tiger and Davis' Independent, the Police were able to collect two and half tons of much needed food. It's safe to say that the Port Hope branch of Northumberland Fare Share Food Banks will make it through Christmas and into the New Year.

While each and every Holiday brings out the generosity in most, benevolence is abundant when it comes to this community's caring for Fare Share. A significant amount of cash was also collected allowing the bank to purchase case lots and pallet loads at prices far below retail.

Northumberland Fare Share Food Banks is a volunteer, community funded and supported organization. “The food we collect in Cobourg and Port Hope stays within community to help the over 2,200 people now using the food bank on a monthly basis”, reports Executive Director, Duncan Mackinnon. “Without the generosity of the community, Fare Share simply would not exist. The Port Hope Police have continued to support the food bank each Christmas and Easter. There are few that better understand the real need of this sort of social assistance than our local Police departments”, Mackinnon added, “they know the plight of people without means and are obviously committed to this cause”.

This Saturday, December 15th will see another Cram-A-Cruiser event - this time running in Cobourg at the Metro store and Walmart (in cooperation with the Salvation Army's Toy Drive). Fare Share also wants people to know that they are running their Christmas Community Challenge into the New Year and accepting groups wanting to participate and qualifying for a chance to win dinner for 25.
