Souper Art Can fundraiser receives a lot of help
Cobourg – In May this year the Cranch Brothers launched a unique fundraiser, which involved a school competition to create art, the design of labels to be applied to cans of soup and the selling of pallets of vegetable and vegetable beef soup – all in support of Northumberland Fare Share Food Banks. Last evening the Cranch Brothers, Ethan and Jake, needed help labeling more cans for their “Souper Art Can” fundraiser. A group of 16 volunteers met up at the Knights of Columbus Centre in Cobourg including members of Northumberland Rotary Sunrise. “Well, what an incredible night we had” says mother and fundraising project manager, Crystal Cranch, “We had 8 tables set up with 2, 3 or 4 people per table putting on labels”.
Executive Director, George Leger made sure the next case was cut and ready for labeling. Rotarian, Paul Appleman worked up a sweat keeping new cases on the tables and taking the labeled cases away. When Blake Holton and his son arrived on the scene they noted that everyone was very seriously working away, there was a mountain of soup to label and it was all too sober and quiet. Blake laid down a challenge to out-label fellow Rotarians. “Within minutes the room was abuzz with excitement”, said Holton, “We did 120 cases in 75 minutes and there was a lot of laughter going on” said Crystal, “The competition between Rotarians Hank Vandermeer and Blake Holton's table, where after a 15 minute period, Blake and son out-labelled Hank and Sam Majic by 3 cans”.
Jake and Ethan collected the $30 during this volunteer session. To date the project is nearing $2,000 in sales and it has only just started. Jake and Ethan welcome corporate sales of soup. Soup sells for $2 per can or a six-pack for $10. “My mom will drop off cases of soup to any business location if anyone is interested in supporting the food bank”, said sales director, Jake Cranch. Please watch for notices on Twitter (@FareShareFB), Facebook (Fare Share Food Bank) or your local newspaper where the Cranch brothers will be selling their soup next.
