Port Hope, April 18, 2016 – Northumberland Fare Share held yet another squeegee day to raise money to purchase food for the food banks with two dramatic changes.
1./ It was the warmest squeegee day to date which was a relief for Fare Share’s stalwart volunteers who make the day a ‘super fun’ occasion and
2./ The bank raised just over $800—the largest amount raised yet, and this will directly go to the purchase of much needed food.
A special shout out to Jack Scanlon, General Manager of the Independent Gas Bar for his continued support for the Food Bank. Jack has not only been a keen supporter for “helping to feed our neighbours” but serves as a great ambassador for the Fare Share.
With well over 400 families to feed and the higher costs of food it has become ever more challenging to maintain the level of food distributed for those in need. Programs run by Mr Scanlon and others are distinct milestones that allow volunteers to maintain the work the food bank does while providing more nutrition per visit.
Fare Share would like all to know that other fundraising events will take place throughout the year and if anyone cares to volunteer some time please contact: volunteer@fareshare.ca
