15 Communities participate in Easter Community Food Drive
New Amherst and Neighbours poised for successful food drive challenge this weekend
Cobourg – The weekend nears and the Easter Community Food Drive Challenge is in full swing. Participation to date has been very exciting with 15 teams now registered to help collect food and donations for Northumberland Fare Share Food Banks’ (FSFB).
Residents of New Amherst are eager to assist with their collections from the neighbouring homes and businesses. Kim Miller, Marketing Coordinator for New Amherst wants people to know that they will receive food at two locations – including the New Amherst Sales Office 950 New Amherst Blvd and at the Coach House Model Home at 871 Carlisle Street.
Kim has further organized a great volunteer team including: James and Catherine Orr, Barry and Geri Wray, Celia and Barry Crangle and Adam McFarland. Kim says, “our goal is to challenge Penryn Village and give them a run for their money”.
“This friendly rivalry is just what’s needed to help pack as much food away as possible for the coming months, says FSFB Director, Duncan MacKinnon. “People are very generous in these communities but the banks have unrelenting demands for food where we feed up 2,600 people per month. Come summer, people are in vacation mode and food banks are less able to collect food, so stock piling is a necessary step to ensure food security in Port Hope and Cobourg. The community challenge is one of three major drives we run through the year and it has proved to be very successful”.
FSFB wish to thank their generous media partners including The Breeze, eagle.ca, Star 933, Northumberland News, The New Classical 103, Snap and Northumberland Today.
We hope that Kim and her team get their wish and beat out rival communities. It’s never too late to get involved; you can easily register your community for the drive and a chance to win dinner for 25 of your closest friend generously sponsored by the Carlyle Inn & Bistro, Port Hope.
