It’s a boy! First baby of the new year welcomed at NHH at 02:56 AM, January 1st
Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) welcomed its first baby of the new year just a few hours after midnight at 02:56 AM on Tuesday, January 1st, 2019. The son of Lindsey Drake-Shalapata (mom) and Alex Shalapata (dad) of Oshawa, Ontario, the baby boy—named Robin Lyle— weighed 7 pounds and 3 ounces (3,260 grams) at birth, and measured 19.5 inches (49.5 centimetres).
Welcomed by his big brothers Ty and Aaron, Robin is the second child born to the Shalapata couple at NHH.
“We’re from Oshawa, but we really enjoyed the experience at NHH several years ago during our second son’s birth,” said the couple. “Together with our midwife—Kory McGrath, of New Life Midwives—we really like the birthing experience offered at NHH. We were impressed by how the team worked together so well, and clearly respected each other. We saw that again with Robin’s birth. The nurses, our midwife, the doctor and the anesthesiologist, everyone involved was just amazing and we’re very grateful,” Lindsey said, acknowledging that the added bonus was Robin’s surprise timing, two weeks before his expected due date, as the hospital’s New Year baby.
