Don Morrison
Welcomed back to the NHH Board as a Community Member in November, 2017, Don Morrison brings a unique combination of public accounting and business expertise accumulated over a distinguished career as a Chartered Accountant and financial executive.
Previously a Board Director of Northumberland Health Care Corporation (1999-2004), Morrison served as Chairman of the New Hospital Committee (1999-2001) and was Board Chair (2001-2004) at the time Northumberland Hills Hospital opened its doors in October 2003. He accepted an interim appointment to the NHH Board table in December, 2019, assuming the seat left vacant by Kai Liu.
An honours graduate of the Western Business School, Morrison received his MBA from York University in 1968. Trained as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte Haskins & Sells in Toronto, he began his career with that firm, serving first as senior Audit Manager and then National Staff Director. In 1964 he joined the Royal Bank of Canada in Montreal, progressing through successively more senior roles until becoming Assistant General Manager in 1968. In 1972 he was recruited to the Canada Development Corporation, first as Chief Financial Officer, then Executive Vice-President and number two operating officer, before leaving to assume the role of Director of Corporate Services with Burns Fry Limited. From 1979 to early 1980 Morrison was Senior Vice-President for the Bank of Nova Scotia and head of that bank's Canadian Corporate Banking Division. From February 1980 until his retirement in 2015, he spent his professional time as a business and financial consultant with emphasis on strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, financial evaluation and negotiation and litigation support services.
A resident of Cobourg since 1997, Morrison's local volunteer activities include terms on the Board and Executive Committee of the Art Gallery of Northumberland (1998-2001); Director, Lakefront Utilities (2004-2007); various Town of Cobourg committees; and, from 2012-2014, Board Member, Ontario Shores Mental Health Centre, serving as a a member of the Finance and Quality as well as Audit Committees. He supports the NHH Board today on both the Finance and Audit Committee and Governance Committee. Effective January, 2020, he will also join the Facilitaties and Campus Development Committee.
