Alexis Smith
Baby Friendly Initiative / Maternal/Child Quality and Practice Committee
Born in Uxbridge and raised in Cobourg, Alexis attended Brock University in St. Catharines and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Honours, before returning to Cobourg to start her career in communications.
A healthy community is a priority to Alexis as, in addition to her full-time career, she co-owns Cobourg Curves alongside her mother. She furthers this passion for health and her community by volunteering and fundraising for local causes and initiatives. Alexis has extensive volunteer experience within Northumberland County including chairing the Board of Directors of the Northumberland Central Chamber of Commerce and giving her time to various charities that support children and health such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northumberland.
Alexis is honoured to have the opportunity to help make care better at NHH. Throughout the years she has been able to observe care and experience it first-hand in various departments from oncology and women’s health, to ambulatory care and the emergency room, to the intensive care unit and the maternity ward.
In March 2019, Alexis and her partner Jeff welcomed their first baby at Northumberland Hills Hospital. Alexis enlisted the help of many community resources, both at NHH and beyond, during her pregnancy and after the birth of her son. She was eager to join the Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) committee and lend her perspective and experiences, as well as that of other patients and families, to the volunteer position.
Alexis spends her free time (which can be hard to find as a new mother) kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and gathering with friends and family. She joined the NHH PFAC in August 2019.
