MPP Piccini Announces Additional Investments to Northumberland Hills Hospital
The Government of Ontario is continuing to invest in Ontario’s hospitals as part of their plan to end hallway health care and address the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the 2021 Budget, Ontario's Action Plan: Protecting People's Health and Our Economy, the Government of Ontario announced a total of $1.8 billion in additional investments for hospitals in 2021/22 to support our hospitals and ensure patients can access high-quality care at hospitals across the province when they need it. This includes an increase of $778 million in funding to meet current and future demands for services.
Today, David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South, announced that as part of this investment, Northumberland Hills Hospital would be receiving the following investments:
Hospital |
Total New Funding 2021/22 |
Percentage Increase |
Northumberland Hills Hospital |
$1,497,300 (including annualization) |
A 2.8% increase on the estimated base and one-time funding received in 2020/21 |
This investment in Ontario’s hospitals takes into consideration overall sector growth to support flexibility, annualizing 2020/2021 in-year investments to provide continued financial stability and relief, and ensuring all publicly funded hospitals receive a minimum of a 1% increase to help them keep pace with patient needs and to increase access to high-quality care for patients and families across Ontario.
Additional support for our hospitals as part of Ontario’s Action Plan includes $760 million to help hospitals continue to respond to COVID-19 and an additional $300 million to reduce surgical backlogs.
“Today’s announcement builds on previous historic investments at Northumberland Hills Hospital, and it continues to send a clear message that this Government is determined to fix the long-standing funding inequities that for so many years have disadvantaged small and medium-sized hospitals. These unprecedented times have highlighted the importance of having a strong health care system and I will continue to work alongside Northumberland Hills Hospital towards the goal of strengthening health care in our riding. I want to thank the hard-working team at Northumberland Hills Hospital for being instrumental in keeping our residents safe during the COVID pandemic.” – David Piccini, MPP Northumberland-Peterborough South
“Northumberland Hills Hospital is extremely grateful for the continued support of our government. The investment announced by our MPP today will better enable our team to support the needs of this growing and aging community.” – Linda Davis, President and CEO, Northumberland Hills Hospital
“Northumberland County Council thanks the Province for this investment in sustainable, responsive, quality health care for patients and families in Northumberland. This is further evidence of the Province’s commitment to ending hallway medicine, and to overcoming the challenges created by COVID-19, as our hospital – and our community – works towards recovery and renewal from the global pandemic.” – Bob Crate, Warden, Northumberland County
This announcement reflects the ongoing commitment of the government to protect the health of Ontarians. Our government’s action plan will help us continue building a modern and connected health care system.
