Canada flag to fly at half-mast on April 28 in recognition of the National Day of Mourning, moment of silence to be observed

The Canada flag will be flying at half-mast at Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) in recognition of the National Day of Mourning on Sunday, April 28. Additionally, a moment of silence will be held hospital-wide.

Established by the Canadian Labour Congress in 1984, the National Day of Mourning honours and remembers individuals injured, killed, or made ill as the result of a workplace-related accident or hazard, including the many families, friends, and colleagues also affected by these tragedies.

“Every year on April 28, we reflect, remember, and honour the many Canadians who—as a result of work-related accidents—were injured or lost their lives,” said Lola Obomighie, Vice President of People, Culture and Organizational Effectiveness. “The National Day of Mourning is also a call to action and reminder of our shared responsibility to minimize any and all risks from workplace hazards. NHH continues to prioritize and implement the high possible standards for mental and physical health, safety, and wellbeing, while always remaining open to how we can enhance and evolve current practices to meet the ever-changing landscape of health care.”
