Registered Nurses - Emergency (Part-time, no rotation)
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The successful incumbent will meet the requirements of the position description for Registered Nurse Emergency / ICU and act as a contributing team member with specific responsibility for performance of professional nursing care to a patient or group of patients as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario; Preference BScN-prepared.
- Current Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); Current Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) (OR) signed commitment to obtain certification within 6 months of date of hire.
- Critical Care or Emergency Room Certification (OR) signed commitment to obtain certification within 18 months of date of hire (mandatory requirement).
- OHA Triage Training if qualified; demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) (tested).
- Preferred Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) Certification.
- Preferred two years previous experience in Emergency Room Environment.
- Minimum two years Medical / Surgical experience.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret cardiac rhythm strips (tested).
- Demonstrated knowledge of ACLS drugs (tested).
- Demonstrated ability to use crisis prevention intervention (CPI) (tested).
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills and experience dealing with the general public.
- Previous experience in working as part of an interprofessional team.
- Critical Thinking Skill Set (scenario based testing).

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to work in an active, rapidly changing, stressful environment with multiple demands.
- Ability to make decisions and prioritize workload and demands effectively.
- Ability to focus on complex instructions and tasks in an environment with many distractions.
- Intense visual concentration required for processing practitioners’ orders, carrying out medication administration routines and interpreting electronic physiological monitoring equipment.
- Physical ability to lift, pull, push, carry, reach and physically support patients with assistance, as required.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time with repetitive bending.
- Adheres to safe and healthy workplace practices and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards, and adheres to health and safety related policies and procedures.
