LOCATION AND ABOUT NHH
Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH delivers a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Acute services include emergency and intensive care, medical/surgical care, obstetrical care and paliative care. Post-acute specialty services (PASS) include restorative care and rehabilitation. Mental health care, cancer and supportive care, dialysis and other ambulatory care clinics are offered on an outpatient basis through partnerships with regional centres and nearby specialists. NHH offers a full range of diagnostic services, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and mammography. The hospital serves the catchment area of west Northumberland County. A mixed urban and rural population of approximately 67,000 residents, west Northumberland comprises the Town of Cobourg, the Municipality of Port Hope, Alderville First Nation and the townships of Hamilton, Cramahe and Alnwick/Haldimand. ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Patient Care Manager of the Emergency Department, the Crisis Clinician is responsible for the provision and coordination of mental health services in collaboration with the Manager of Mental Health to individuals presenting to the Emergency Department and within the community.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide mental health assessment, crisis de-escalation, risk assessment and safety planning to individuals presenting in the Emergency Department.
Assisting police and community services by responding to non-emergency mental health crisis situations in the community
Provide short-term individual counseling, provide information and referrals and case facilitation within the context of primary health care services in the Ontario Health East Region.
Collaborate between primary health care providers, Schedule 1 hospitals and the mental health and addiction treatment system in the Ontario Health East Region. To facilitate this collaboration, this position may include travel to hospitals, organizations, and agencies within the Ontario Health East Region.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Master of Social Work or a Master in related fields
- Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Worker and Social Service Workers or College of Psychotherapy.
- 2 years of recent experience as an emergency department crisis intervention clinician
- Knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention principles and theory, community resources in mental health and substance abuse treatment
- Demonstrate the ability to work with stakeholders and clients of diverse backgrounds.
- Must possess excellent organizational, communication, clinical documentation, computer literacy, and interpersonal skills,
- Ability to work effectively as a team member in a dynamic interdisciplinary environment and have a collaborative approach to care with other team members.
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, social service benefits and related legislation in Ontario
- Current BCLS Certificate required.
- Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Evidence of excellent communication, interpersonal and psychotherapeutic skills
- Successful completion of a criminal reference review; valid driver’s license and insurance
- Additional Mental Health/Addictions Certifications preferred
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
