ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Communications and Community Engagement Coordinator to lead strategic communications and support inclusive engagement across our health and community sectors. This individual will play a key role in strengthening public awareness, partner relationships, and community voice in all aspects of the OHT-N’s evolving work.
The Communications and Community Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for the following deliverables:
- Digital Communications:
- Develop and maintain digital platforms, including the website, social media channels, and electronic newsletters, including basic photography.
- Content Development:
- Support project communications needs through the creation of reports, articles, graphic design materials, and copyediting services.
- Brand Management:
- Lead the ongoing development and maintenance of brand guidelines, templates, and tools to support consistent messaging across partner organizations and alignment with provincial expectations for OHTs.
- Media Relations:
- Lead the development of media releases and coordinate responses to media inquiries as needed.
- Patient and Caregiver Engagement:
- Facilitate the implementation of the Patient, Family and Caregiver Declaration of Values for Ontario and support the creation of engagement-capable environments across the healthcare system.
- Co-Design Facilitation:
- Support co-design initiatives and ad hoc engagement activities with patient, family, and caregiver partners.
- Internal and Partner Communications:
- Support communication and relationship-building strategies among internal stakeholders and external community partners through resource sharing and collaborative planning.
- Strategic Planning and Reporting:
- Assist in the planning and development of key Ontario Health deliverables, including work plans and evaluation reports.
- Research and Collaboration:
- Undertake research and collaborate with Ontario Health Teams across the province to incorporate and promote best practices in communications and community engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, journalism, health promotion, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in communications and/or community engagement, preferably in a healthcare, non-profit, or public sector setting.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills for diverse audiences and platforms.
- Experience using digital tools and platforms such as WordPress, Mailchimp, Canva, Sharepoint and Meta Business Suite.
- Demonstrated ability to engage diverse communities and facilitate inclusive dialogue.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Experience using analytics to maximize impact and focus limited resources on the tools that best meet stakeholder needs/preferences.
ASSETS
- Knowledge of Ontario’s health system and the Northumberland context. Affiliation with a recognized professional association (eg. International Association of Business Communicators, IABC; International Association of Public Participation, etc.)

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Successful applicants are required to provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
