LOCATION

Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH is a vibrant community hospital delivering a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Directly serving a growing population of more than 60,000 residents spread across a mix of urban and rural settings, NHH directly employs approximately 750 people and relies on the additional support provided by a highly engaged and supportive network of physicians, midwives and volunteers.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Under the direction of the Director of Nutrition, Housekeeping and CSR, the MDR Technician is responsible for directing and assisting in the daily operation of the department as per the position description.  The MDR technician must assess, plan, implement and evaluate the 24-hour need for sterile supplies and equipment for all patient care areas.  They will also evaluate new and replacement products.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful completion of a Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate from an approved accredited community college required
  • Recent experience as defined per PIDAC documents and adopted by NHH to be experience within the last 5 years
  • Certification with the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario (MDRAO)
  • Must be capable of learning new techniques, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of decontamination, disinfection and sterile technique procedures, medical/surgical supplies and equipment
  • Good time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as a team member
  • Demonstrated ability to work with precision and accuracy
  • Computer skills in Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Follows safe and healthy work practices and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards and adherence to health and safety related policies and procedures

ASSET

  • 1-year recent experience in the MDRD is preferred.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods
  • Repetitive lifting, bending, pushing and pulling
  • Exposure to various chemical, physical and mechanical hazards
  • Ability to focus on complex instructions and tasks in an active, rapidly changing environment
  • May be required to work weekends and statutory holidays as per the collective agreement

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
