LOCATION

Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH is a vibrant community hospital delivering a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Directly serving a growing population of more than 60,000 residents spread across a mix of urban and rural settings, NHH directly employs approximately 750 people and relies on the additional support provided by a highly engaged and supportive network of physicians, midwives and volunteers.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice, the Clinical Scholar is an experienced Registered Nurse who provides mentorship for new graduate nurses to support their nursing practice and integration into the clinical area. They provide this support in accordance with organizational and professional standards and in collaboration with clinical teams. The Clinical Scholar demonstrates expert clinical skills and knowledge related to the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients and families and supports the newly graduated nurse to develop critical thinking and clinical judgement. The Clinical Scholar will work in a supernumerary capacity without a patient care load and will focus exclusively on mentoring newly graduated nurses in their transition into the nursing workforce.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum of 3 years’ hospital experience in one or more of (1) acute care in medical surgical, (2) rehabilitation, (3) emergency department
  • Excellent clinical skills and competencies
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching or preceptorship
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional mentorship and coaching, applying principles of adult learning and evidence based practice
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for teaching, continuous learning, and nursing that inspires and motivates others
  • Demonstrated ability as a role model and collaborative team player
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and be self-motivated
  • Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Exemplifies NHH’s shared purpose and values
  • Current B.C.L.S.
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification an asset
  • Proven good attendance record with capabilities of maintaining this same standard

RECRUITMENT INITIATIVES

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants are required to provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

Additionally to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
