LOCATION
Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH is a vibrant community hospital delivering a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Directly serving a growing population of more than 60,000 residents spread across a mix of urban and rural settings, NHH directly employs approximately 750 people and relies on the additional support provided by a highly engaged and supportive network of physicians, midwives and volunteers.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The successful incumbent will meet the requirements of the position description for Registered Nurse Emergency and act as a contributing team member with specific responsibility for performance of professional nursing care to a patient or group of patients as assigned. The full-time day shift registered nurse will be experienced in Emergency Department nursing and will act as a resource for other nurses within the department including supporting triage and red zone as required. The ED day shift nurse will have current experience in the Emergency Department and triage (CTAS).
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Required
- Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario; Preference BScN-prepared.
- Minimum 3 years current Emergency Department experience REQUIRED.
- Current CTAS certification (NENA) and experience (within the last 6 months) at triage REQUIRED.
- Current ACLS certificate REQUIRED.
- Current PALS certificate REQUIRED.
- Coronary Care 1 REQUIRED.
- Current TNCC certificate or willing to obtain within 6 months.
- Emergency nursing certification or critical care certification.
- Canadian Nurses Association (CNA): Emergency Nursing Certification (ENC) or willing to obtain within 6 months.
- Charge nurse experience in ED is preferred.
- GPA certification preferred.
- Preferred experience caring for Mental Health Patients.
- Demonstrated ability to use crisis prevention intervention (CPI).
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills and experience dealing with the public.
- Previous experience in working as part of an interprofessional team.
- Applicant has a demonstrated understanding of Northumberland Hills Hospital’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Applicant has a demonstrated understanding of ‘Person-and-Family-Centered’ Model of Care.
RECRUITMENT INITIATIVES
Relocation Incentive:
Reimbursement of a one-off instalment of up to $3,000 towards relocation costs for within the province healthcare professionals new to NHH and successful in filling high need vacancies.
Reimbursement of a one-off instalment of up to $15,000 towards relocation costs for out-of-province healthcare professionals new to NHH and successful in filling high need vacancies
Refer a Friend:
Applicants referred to NHH by a current employee/staff of NHH are eligible for an incentive package.
Incentives comprise of, and are applicable to both the referree and referred:
- $500 ($250 at 30 days and $250 at 180 days of continuous employment) , or
- 1 Extra Float Day, or
- choice of payment for professional subscription for a year
Canada Student Loan Forgiveness:
To be eligible for Canada Studen Loan Forgiveness you must have:
- started your current employment (full-time, part-time or casual) as an eligible medical professional (family doctor, resident in family medicine, nurse practitioner, or nurse) in an under-served rural or remote community on or after July 1, 2011 been employed for a full year (12 consecutive months) in an under-served rural or remote community (this does not apply to residents in family medicine) provided in-person services for a minimum of 400 hours in that community a Canada Student Loan that is in good standing.
- Note: You can apply for Canada Student Loan forgiveness for family doctors and nurses if you are enrolled in full-time or part-time studies, are currently repaying your student loan, or are in your 6-month non-repayment period. If your Canada Student Loan is in repayment, you must continue to make your regular monthly payments.
- If you qualify, you could receive up to $20,000 in Canada Student Loan forgiveness over a maximum of five years ($4,000 per year).
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Successful applicants are required to provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
Additionally to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.

The successful incumbent should expect the role to be in person however a hybrid working arrangement may also be considered subject to operational needs.
