LOCATION
Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH is a vibrant community hospital delivering a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Directly serving a growing population of more than 60,000 residents spread across a mix of urban and rural settings, NHH directly employs approximately 750 people and relies on the additional support provided by a highly engaged and supportive network of physicians, midwives and volunteers.
ROLE OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Materials Management Supervisor and Project Coordinator, the Purchasing Clerk will assist with the acquisition of equipment, supplies and services in accordance with the Broader Public Sector Procurement Directive and Northumberland Hills Hospital procurement policy. The Purchasing clerk works closely with all hospital departments placing orders, ensuring that purchases are received as requested, and following up on backorders working with departmental representatives to ensure appropriate substitutions when required. In addition, will act as a liaison to sales representatives and other entities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 education
- Successful completion of the Healthcare Supply Chain Management Training Certificate
- Post secondary courses related to Purchasing or Materials Management required
- A minimum of 2 years recent experience working in a computerized purchasing position
- Knowledge of hospital purchasing and receiving
- Knowledge of EDI and other electronic ordering systems
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft office applications
- Proven knowledge of medical supply and equipment products and terminology
- Demonstrated analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to enroll in further Materials Management education programs as required
- Must be able to organize and prioritize workload while functioning independently with minimum supervision.
- Must have above average public relations skills combined with the ability to relate well under pressure in a positive, courteous, cooperative manner.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with end-users and vendors.
- Must be able to work productively and independently, with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail, in a high pressure, demanding setting with frequent distractions and interruptions.
- Must be strong team player
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills - verbal and written
- Proven good attendance record
- Follows safe and healthy work practices and maintain a safe, healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established reporting mechanisms for injuries, illness and hazards and adherence to health and safety related policies and procedures.
- Must be available for call-ins
- Must be capable of performing extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and lifting above 50 pounds
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
