LOCATION
Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH is a vibrant community hospital delivering a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Directly serving a growing population of more than 60,000 residents spread across a mix of urban and rural settings, NHH directly employs approximately 750 people and relies on the additional support provided by a highly engaged and supportive network of physicians, midwives and volunteers.
ROLE OVERVIEW
M-HEART (Mental Health Engagement and Response Team) is an integration of the justice and health care system that will respond to individuals with mental illness and/or addictions in Northumberland County. The M-HEART program will operate five days per week in partnership with Northumberland OPP and Cobourg Police Services. The M-HEART Mental Health Social Worker is an experienced mental health clinician who works in partnership with Police as well as being an active member of the multi-disciplinary team at Northumberland Hills Hospital Community Mental Health Services. The M-HEART Social Worker will represent Northumberland Hills Hospital and the Community Mental Health Program when performing his/her duties in the community. The M-HEART Social Worker reports directly to the Clinical Manager and is positioned with a partnering police service in the M-HEART program.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants must have MSW or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Current certificate of registration with a regulatory college such as Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, Ontario College of Registered Psychotherapists.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
- Current and demonstrated knowledge of psychotic illnesses including etiology, prognosis, and treatment modalities,
- Experience in mental health teaching to clients, family, and community
- Recent related clinical experience working with individuals with the a serious mental illness preferably in a community setting
- Working knowledge of Mental Health Reform, Mental Health Act, privacy legislation
- Valid driver’s license and insurance as incumbent will be required to drive their vehicle for the provision of mental health services.
- Successful completion of a criminal reference review
- CPR and First Aid Certification required.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Successful applicants are required to provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
Additionally to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
