LOCATION

Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH is a vibrant community hospital delivering a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Directly serving a growing population of more than 60,000 residents spread across a mix of urban and rural settings, NHH directly employs approximately 750 people and relies on the additional support provided by a highly engaged and supportive network of physicians, midwives and volunteers.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The successful incumbent will meet the requirements of the position description for “Registered Nurse” or “Registered Practical Nurse” acting as a team member with specific responsibility for performance of professional nursing care to a patient or group of patients as assigned and according to the standards of the College of Nurses. New graduate nurses are nurses who have recently graduated from an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Registered Practical Nursing program.

As part of the Internship program, new graduate nurses will complete an extended 12-week unit orientation with a designated preceptor. They will be supported by the Clinical Educator through frequent check ins and mentorship, opportunities to practice skills in the Learning Lab, and utilize evidence-based resources to support their readiness to practice.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of a recognized nursing (RPN or RN) program
  • Licensed within 12 months of nursing program completion
  • Currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current B.C.L.S. certification
  • Competency to perform added nursing skills as required
  • Ability to make decisions and prioritize workload effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the interprofessional team as well with patients and their families
  • Follows safe and healthy work practices and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established reporting mechanisms for injuries, illness and hazards and adherence to health and safety related policies and procedures
  • Physical ability to lift, pull, push, carry, reach, and physically support patients
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time with repetitive bending
  • Ability to focus on complex instructions and tasks in an active, rapidly changing environment
  • Above average written and verbal communication skills, including listening
  • Able to function as a team member and maintain good interpersonal relations while performing duties

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

Additionally to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, Northumberland Hills Hospital may choose to conduct parts/all the hiring process virtually. The successful incumbent should expect the role to be in person however a hybrid working arrangement may also be considered subject to operational needs.
