LOCATION

Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH is a vibrant community hospital delivering a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Directly serving a growing population of more than 60,000 residents spread across a mix of urban and rural settings, NHH directly employs approximately 750 people and relies on the additional support provided by a highly engaged and supportive network of physicians, midwives and volunteers.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Manager, Professional Practice, the Professional Practice Leader (PPL) is responsible to support standards of practice, promote best practice implementation, and ensure safety and quality in the overall practice environment in keeping with Northumberland Hills Hospital’s mission, vision, values and strategic direction.  The PPL works collaboratively with management and members of the Interprofessional care team and all Patient Care Units, departments, and services to support the organizational goal of providing “Exceptional patient care.  Every time.”

The PPL provides visible clinical leadership and collaborates with other leaders in the development, implementation, and evaluation of efficient and effective interprofessional care processes, clinical education, and professional development opportunities in alignment with NHH Professional Practice and Clinical Program priorities.  The PPL demonstrates responsibility and accountability for promoting a work environment that exemplifies respect, interprofessional and ethical practice, professional autonomous decision making, and maximized scopes of practice.  The PPL uses knowledge of a shared leadership philosophy to engage with NHH point of care staff to achieve continuous improvement and clinical practice change.

The PPL will support the Professional Practice Model and facilitate clinical orientation. The PPL will support staff with adoption of the CIS.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field required.
  • Membership in related professional interest group or association preferred.
  • BCLS Certification required, ACLS preferred.
  • Experience working with the Epic Clinical Informatics System preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills related to enabling evidence-based acute care nursing practice, interprofessional and ethical practice, person centered care.
  • Minimum of 3 years related and practical experience in an acute care or critical care environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management and program planning skills and knowledge required.
  • Excellent leadership, prioritization, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated clinical education skills and knowledge of principles of adult education.
  • Evidence of effective communication and conflict resolution skills and the ability to develop positive working relationships with all stakeholders promoting collective problem-solving approaches.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong orientation to staff development and staff empowerment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and be self-directed.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to respond to and appropriately prioritize competing demands.
  • Ability to use information technology (databases, spreadsheets, MS Office, and internet searches).
  • Demonstrated compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Infection Prevention and Control practices.
  • Demonstrates a professional and respectful attitude to patients, public, volunteers and colleagues; fosters good public relations and effective working relationships.
  • Proven good attendance record with capabilities of maintaining this same standard.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, Northumberland Hills Hospital may choose to conduct parts/all the hiring process virtually. The successful incumbent should expect the role to be in person however a hybrid working arrangement may also be considered subject to operational needs.
