The Northumberland Hills Hospital is currently seeking a full-time Obstetrician / Gynecologist to join our vibrant team/community.
Practice opportunities include primary and consultation obstetrics, gynecologic surgery (fully equipped for minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery), outpatient clinics and emergency department consultation.
LOCATION:
Our hospital is located in Ontario’s “Feel Good Town” of Cobourg, one of MoneySense magazine’s Best Places to Live in Canada! Cobourg’s famous waterfront boasts gorgeous white sand beaches, a world-class marina, and a unique beachfront boardwalk while nearby Port Hope’s rich heritage boasts vibrant downtown shops and restaurants along the beautiful Ganaraska River.
Our natural playground is considered an ideal place to enjoy the great outdoors, offering a variety of activities.
Biking, hiking, swimming, sailing, and boating, golfing, fishing, and cross-country skiing are popular and readily accessible throughout the region. Downhill skiing is a short drive away.

MATERNAL CHILD CARE PROGRAM
The Maternal Child Care program provides low risk obstetrical care (Level 1) with approximately 550 births per year with capacity to grow. The birthing unit provides a family centered environment that is equipped with six labour and delivery beds – each with their own private and home-like suite; a dedicated C-section operating suite; and an advanced fetal and patient monitoring system.
Our team consists of registered nurses specifically trained in obstetrical and newborn care, obstetricians, family physicians, midwives, anesthetists, respiratory therapists, pharmacy staff, dietitians, social workers, and volunteers. This team is committed to the provision of exceptional patient care. The team actively participates in the MoreOB risk management program and follows the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists guidelines. The program is committed to mother-baby dyad care and works within a patient and family centred model of care. The hospital is currently working toward Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation and provides breastfeeding support.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must have Fellowship in Obstetrics/Gynecology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
- Licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (or eligibility for licensure in the Province of Ontario).
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work effectively with all department / team disciplines in a supportive best practice environment (interprofessional collaboration).
- Proven evidence of continued medical education commitment in related field.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate current evidence and best practice into the delivery of quality care.
- Must be willing to provide team-shared 24/7 on-call coverage with group staff specialists under a formal HOCC Agreement and be available for 1 in 3 coverage.
- Support family physicians with obstetrics privileges and midwifery colleagues.
- As a member of our team, the successful candidate will help develop and maintain leading obstetrics and gynecological programs and best practices. You will be expected to share your expertise in areas of education and practice, as a sitting member of the department’s Quality and Practice Committee.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- Full-spectrum general obstetrics and gynecology scope of practice; subspecialty in MIS and / or colposcopy preferred.
- NHH is affiliated with three major Universities (Toronto, Queen’s, and Ottawa) and is a recognized educational site for Family Medicine Residents and Undergraduates. The preferred candidates would be expected to participate in teaching postgraduate and undergraduate medical trainees.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
The applicant must be experienced, competent, and up-to-date with regard to general obstetrics and gynaecology. Experience in ultrasonography and colposcopy, as well as minimally invasive surgery is preferred.

Remuneration is based on Fee-for-Service and Hospital On Call Coverage stipend.
