LOCATION

Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH is a vibrant community hospital delivering a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Directly serving a growing population of more than 60,000 residents spread across a mix of urban and rural settings, NHH directly employs approximately 750 people and relies on the additional support provided by a highly engaged and supportive network of physicians, midwives and volunteers.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice, the Learning Specialist will support the coordination of staff education and training requirements, in keeping with Northumberland Hills Hospital’s (NHH) mission, vision, values, and strategic direction. The Learning Specialist will maintain, update, and support the Learning Management System (LMS) and manage scheduling and tracking of staff training, including Clinical Information System (CIS) training and mandatory clinical and corporate courses. The Learning Specialist will create learning activities in the LMS, supported by subject matter experts.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Professional Practice, Human Resources, and Information Technology teams to support the organizational goal of providing “Exceptional patient care.  Every time.”

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in determining learning needs and objectives for employees
  • Manage the logistics of training including assigning courses, scheduling facilitators, booking training rooms, and tracking course completion
  • Ensure CIS access for new employees, physicians, and midwives
  • Create courses and modules in the LMS, supported by subject matter experts
  • Provide regular training reports for managers
  • Collect feedback, evaluate course delivery, and recommend changes
  • Communicate training opportunities to employees
  • Work collaboratively with the Professional Practice and Human Resources teams

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Education, Organizational Development, or related field
  • Strong technical skills including MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories and styles
  • Excellent organization, time-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Project management skills with ability to identify priorities and work on concurrent projects
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment

ASSETS

  • Experience using a Learning Management System (e.g. Dual Code, Medworxx)
  • Experience using course development software (e.g. Articulate 360, Storyline)
  • Knowledge of Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) standards and specifications
  • Experience with graphic design and video content creation
  • Experience working in a health care environment

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

Additionally, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.

The successful incumbent should expect the role to be in person however a hybrid working arrangement may also be considered subject to operational needs.
