About Northumberland Hills Hospital – Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH delivers a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Acute services include emergency and intensive care, medical/surgical care, obstetrical care and palliative care. Post-acute specialty services (PASS) include restorative care and rehabilitation. Mental health care, chemotherapy, dialysis and 16 other ambulatory care clinics are offered on an outpatient basis through partnerships with regional centres and nearby specialists. NHH offers a full range of diagnostic services, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and mammography. The hospital serves the catchment area of west Northumberland County. Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Program Director, the Patient Care Manager is responsible for the overall day to day management of the patient care units in keeping with Northumberland Hills Hospital’s mission, vision, values and strategic direction.
The Patient Care Manager provides visible clinical leadership and demonstrates responsibility, accountability and commitment to the development of a work environment that exemplifies Interprofessional and ethical practice; professional autonomous decision making; empowerment; integrative thinking; appreciative inquiry; a shared governance philosophy; and positive recognition through the support of professional development and continuing education opportunities.
In this role, the Patient Care Manager will model transformational leadership practices and develop, implement and evaluate efficient, effective and integrated patient care systems and pathways. The Patient Care Manager is guided by interprofessional practice/care/collaboration and ethical practices; and actively promotes and builds team capacity through continuing education/staff development with the goal of creating a safe patient care, and workplace environment. The Patient Care Manager is part of the larger Clinical Services team; as such this role will be part of hospital wide projects, initiatives, and services as a collaborative member and/or leadership role.
As the Patient Care Manager, you will be accountable for providing overall operational, quality and safety, and human resource management to the operating room, post anaesthetic care unit, day surgery, pre-op clinic and ambulatory care. This includes ensuring that the organization is meeting the standards of the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC), National Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses of Canada (NAPAN), and Canadian Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (CSGNA).
Qualifications Required:
- Master’s level in Nursing or Health Administration or actively pursuing.
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing (or related field) currently registered and in good standing with the CNO (or other appropriate professional college).
- Certification in B.C.L.S.
- Recent formal leadership/management experience required.
- Completion of CHA/OHA management courses or equivalent would be an asset.
- Certification from appropriate/relevant bodies/organizations preferred
- Familiar with Quality Based Procedures (QBP’s), Surgical Efficiencies Target Program (SETP), and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS).
- The Patient Care Manager will be required to be on-call on a rotational basis that will include some nights, weekends and statutory holidays.
