Qualifications Required

The successful incumbent will provide care in accordance with the Professional standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario. A member of Surgical Services has a significant role in promoting health, preventing illness, and helping clients to meet overall health related needs. As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, the O.R. Technician performs duties as practiced in accordance with the O.R.N.A.C. standards of perioperative nursing.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

- Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario; Diploma prepared preferred
- Physical assessment course required; Excellent assessment skills including pediatric assessment
- Current Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Successful completion of a fully accredited College Operating Room Technician course required
- Recent operating room experience required; Familiar with the use and function of surgical equipment
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience working with the public.
- Updated nursing skills, demonstrated competency and/or evidence of formal education in the following- including but not limited to- aseptic techniques, wound management, IM injections, IV initiation and maintenance, venipuncture, scope procedures, Blood product administration, health assessment including pediatrics, and knowledge of Central Line care.
- Demonstrated Critical Thinking Skill Set (scenario based testing).
- Working knowledge of Meditech/ Order Entry programs
- Competence in interpreting and analyzing clinical data and taking appropriate action/intervention
- Follows safe and healthy work practices and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established reporting mechanisms for injuries, illness and hazards and adherence to health and safety related policies and procedures
- Applicant has a demonstrated understanding of Northumberland Hills Hospital’s Mission, Vision and Values.
- Applicant has a demonstrated understanding of ‘Person-and-Family-Centered’ Model of Care.

- Ability to focus on complex instructions and tasks in an environment with many distractions.
- Intense visual concentration required for processing practitioners’ orders, carrying out medication administration routines and interpreting electronic physiological monitoring equipment.
- Physical ability to lift, pull, push, carry, reach and physically support patients with assistance, as required.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time with repetitive bending.
- Adheres to safe and healthy workplace practices and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards, and adheres to health and safety related policies and procedures.
- Able to function independently and as a team member and maintains good interpersonal relations while performing duties
- Ability to take on-call assignment as scheduled
