Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director will lead the development and execution of strategies that secure transformational philanthropic support for Northumberland Hills Hospital. This role is integral to advancing the Foundation’s mission by building meaningful, long-term relationships with donors, volunteers, community leaders, and strategic partners.
The successful candidate is a collaborative and results-driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, inspires confidence and trust, and brings proven success securing significant gifts. The Director will play a key role in strengthening philanthropic engagement and helping shape the future of healthcare in west Northumberland County.
A seasoned professional, the ideal candidate has a demonstrated track record of exceptional organizational, analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills, along with a strong understanding of donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and campaign strategy. Experience in healthcare philanthropy is preferred; however, candidates with transferable leadership and fundraising experience from related sectors are encouraged to apply.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Gift Strategy
- Develop and implement comprehensive major gift strategies that drive significant philanthropic revenue growth.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects and donors.
Capital Campaign Leadership
- Lead the planning and execution of capital campaign initiatives, including campaign strategy, volunteer engagement, donor pipeline development, and campaign reporting.
- Work collaboratively with staff, campaign volunteers, leadership, and stakeholders to achieve ambitious fundraising goals.
Portfolio Management
- Manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, including individuals, foundations, corporations, and community organizations.
- Build customized engagement strategies that deepen donor relationships and inspire long-term support.
Donor Engagement & Stewardship
- Foster authentic and meaningful relationships with donors, volunteers, and community champions.
- Ensure exceptional stewardship practices that recognize donor impact and strengthen ongoing engagement.
Strategic Collaboration
- Partner closely with Foundation leadership, hospital leadership, board members, and volunteers to advance fundraising priorities and campaign objectives.
- Contribute to the overall growth and success of the Foundation through strategic planning and collaboration.
Talent Development
- Lead, mentor, and coach direct reports, guiding them on prospect pipelines and closing strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in major gift fundraising, preferably within healthcare or the charitable sector.
- A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation or advanced degree is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated success securing six- and seven-figure gifts and managing complex donor relationships.
- Experience leading or playing a significant role in capital campaigns.
- Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders with professionalism, tact, and confidence.
- Strong strategic thinking, planning, organizational, and project management abilities.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Proficiency with donor database and CRM systems is considered an asset.
- A genuine commitment to advancing outstanding patient care and community health.
LOCATION AND ABOUT NHH
Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH delivers a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Acute services include emergency and intensive care, medical/surgical care, obstetrical care and palliative care. Post-acute specialty services (PASS) include restorative care and rehabilitation. Mental health care, cancer and supportive care, dialysis and other ambulatory care clinics are offered on an outpatient basis through partnerships with regional centres and nearby specialists. NHH offers a full range of diagnostic services, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and mammography. The hospital serves the catchment area of west Northumberland County. A mixed urban and rural population of approximately 67,000 residents, west Northumberland comprises the Town of Cobourg, the Municipality of Port Hope, Alderville First Nation and the townships of Hamilton, Cramahe and Alnwick/Haldimand. EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT
Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
