LOCATION AND ABOUT NHH

Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH delivers a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Acute services include emergency and intensive care, medical/surgical care, obstetrical care and palliative care. Post-acute specialty services (PASS) include restorative care and rehabilitation. Mental health care, cancer and supportive care, dialysis and other ambulatory care clinics are offered on an outpatient basis through partnerships with regional centres and nearby specialists. NHH offers a full range of diagnostic services, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and mammography. The hospital serves the catchment area of west Northumberland County. A mixed urban and rural population of approximately 67,000 residents, west Northumberland comprises the Town of Cobourg, the Municipality of Port Hope, Alderville First Nation and the townships of Hamilton, Cramahe and Alnwick/Haldimand. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

The successful incumbent will meet the requirements of the position description for Registered Nurse Emergency and act as a contributing team member with specific responsibility for performance of professional nursing care to a patient or group of patients as assigned.

  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
  • Coronary Care 1
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or commitment to obtain within 12 months
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or commitment to obtain within 18 months
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) or commitment to obtain certification within 2 years
  • Current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training or commitment to obtain within 6 months
  • Critical Care or Emergency Room Certification or commitment to obtain certification within 2 years
  • OHA Triage Training if qualified; or commitment to complete Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) certification when requested
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) Certification preferred
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA): Emergency Nursing Certification (ENC) preferred
  • Experience caring for Mental Health Patients preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret cardiac rhythm strips (tested prior to movement to cardiac monitored area)
  • Demonstrated commitment to interprofessional practice standards
  • Demonstrates a professional and respectful attitude to patients, public, volunteers and colleagues and fosters good public relations and effective and positive working relationships promoting collective problem solving and conflict resolution approaches
  • Proven good attendance with capability of maintaining this same standard

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to prioritize workload and effectively respond to many simultaneous and competing demands from patients, families, staff, physicians, and other programs and departments
  • Intense visual concentration required for processing practitioners’ orders, carrying out medication administration routines and interpreting electronic physiological monitoring equipment
  • Physical ability to lift, pull, push, carry, reach, and physically support patients with assistance, as required
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time with repetitive bending
  • Adheres to safe and healthy workplace practices and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards, and adheres to health and safety related policies and procedures
  • Understanding of compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Infection Prevention and Control practices

 

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
