With venues in Cobourg and Port Hope, the series offered an opportunity to hear from, and chat with, some of Ontario's leading health care system influencers. Conversation 4 - Graham Scott and Maureen Quigley - May 10, 2011 - Best Western, Cobourg

About Graham Scott and Maureen Quigley

Together, Graham Scott and Maureen Quigley have been directly involved in the amalgamation, restructuring and governance processes of numerous hospitals in Ontario. In addition to their collaborations with hospital amalgamations, they are the joint authors of Hospital Governance and Accountability in Ontario, a 2004 report commissioned by the Ontario Hospital Association and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and several recent articles on changing expectations for health care governance. They concluded the first cycle of Conversations events with a thought-provoking discussion on the future of smaller community hospitals and the changing role of local hospital boards.

Conversation 3 - Andre Picard - April 27, 2011 - Capitol Theatre, Port Hope

About Andre Picard

A staffer with The Globe and Mail since 1987, Mr. Picard is the author of numerous best-selling books and in-depth newspaper reports on such issues as tainted blood, the changing role of Canada’s health professionals, and dementia. The breadth and depth of Mr. Picard’s work was recognized with a Hyman Solomon Award from the Canadian think-tank the Public Policy Forum this spring. The Award recognizes his unique contribution to public health policy in Canada. He spoke in Port Hope on the future of health care in Ontario.

Conversation 2 - Dr. Kathy McGilton - March 22, 2011 - LeVan Hall, Trinity College School, Port Hope

About Dr. McGilton

An expert in care for seniors in health facilities, Dr. McGilton is a Senior Scientist at Toronto Rehab and a recognized leader in the field of geriatrics, particularly as it relates to nursing care and the impact the nurse/patient relationship has on quality of life for seniors. A former Career Scientist with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Dr. McGilton has a PhD in Nursing from the University of Toronto. She presently holds cross appointments as an Associate Professor at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing and the Graduate Department of Rehabilitaiton Sciences at the University of Toronto. Dr. McGilton began the evening with opening remarks about what the latest research is revealing about optimal care for seniors in health care facilities.

Conversation 1 - Dr. Carolyn Hughes Tuohy - February 24, 2011 - Victoria Hall, Cobourg

About Dr. Tuohy

One of Canada's leading experts on health care policy, Dr. Tuohy was a contributor to the May 2010 TD Economics report Charting a Path to Sustainable Health Care in Ontario - 10 proposals to restrain cost growth without compromising quality of care, considered by many to be one of the most significant reports issued in Ontario in recent years on possible options to sustain our system. Sharing her own perspective gleaned from her research and teaching interests in comparative public policy, Dr. Tuohy spoke to the TD Report’s 10 recommendations, outlining the points on which she agrees, where her views differ and other issues she recommends Ontario consider as we move forward.
