Happy Birthday Margaret! 80 years young, patient’s family hosts surprise celebration for beloved mom in Inpatient Rehab Unit

Margaret Maggiacomo's 80th Birthday Part at NHH

Recent health challenges and a lengthy hospital stay did not stop the family of one Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) patient from hosting a surprise 80th birthday party for their mom, Margaret Maggiacomo, earlier today (Saturday March 10th, 2018).

Coordinated with the support of hospital staff, the surprise party took place in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, where Ms. Maggiacomo is currently a patient.

Daughter Marcie and son Mark brought together a room-full of grandchildren, nephews and friends to recognize the big day, complete with a meal, balloons, flowers gifts and, of course, cake. Even her great grand-dog Medley was in on the celebration!

Ms. Maggiacomo was born in British Guyana, on South America’s North Atlantic coast, but her life brought her to Northumberland County in 1985, first to Grafton, and, most recently Cobourg, where she now resides.

“We really want to thank the entire team at Northumberland Hills Hospital for the incredible care Mom has received,” said daughter Marcie Gallagher. “The care she has received since she arrived has just been top notch. It’s almost like personalized care. The team has been responsive and just so caring. Everyone has been fantastic, and we especially want to thank her family doctor, who has also cared for her here, Dr. Wijeyesinghe. We have been so fortunate to have him as her family doctor—he’s caring, compassionate and thorough and we’re just so grateful. Thank you to everyone at NHH for being there for Mom when she needed it.”

A patient at NHH since February 27th, first on the medical, acute care floor and now in rehab, Ms. Maggiacomo is looking forward to returning home shortly. If laughter and love are the best medicine, then she should be back on her feet in no time! Very best wishes from NHH, Ms. Maggiacomo, and good health!
