Main front entrance reopens after incident this morning (August 15)

Further to a news release issued this morning, the hospital’s main entrance has now reopened to the public. While hospital services were unaffected by the entrance’s temporary closure, patients and visitors were redirected to alternate entries while the investigation and temporary repairs could be complete.

At approximately 8:48 AM this morning, a vehicle lost control at the main front entrance to the hospital. The vehicle mounted the curb, hit the building, and proceeded through the glass enclosure immediately outside the main entrance before coming to rest against the stone wall beneath the wooden overhang. The occupants of the vehicle (two) were taken into the Emergency Department for care and no injuries were sustained by individuals inside the hospital.

“The area in and around the main entrance is now open again to the public,” said Susan Walsh, President and CEO. “The main entrance is a busy place at any time of the day – it is particularly busy first thing in the morning, when this occurred, and we are very fortunate that there were no serious injuries. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as teams worked diligently to ensure that the main entrance could be secured and safely reopened. Thank you to all who supported the response.”
