Bill’s Garden Unveiled at Northumberland Hills Hospital
The Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) and NHH Foundation today unveiled a new art feature in recognition of local philanthropist and community builder, Bill Patchett.
Located within the hospital on the main floor, the art installation is comprised of individual painted floral tiles, sixteen in total, mounted on an acrylic backdrop.
“Today is the day we pay tribute in a tangible and meaningful way to an extraordinary couple Bill and Delphine Patchett,” states Rhonda Cunningham, Executive Director of the NHH Foundation.
“It has been on the minds of many of us for quite some time to recognize the Patchetts and the legacy they’ve helped to create for this hospital and the thousands of patients who walk through our doors every year. We wanted “something” that would endure over time. Something that was attractive and something that was symbolic of what the Patchett’s represent.
Specifically, this art tile garden honours Bill in more ways than one. For starters, the actual art tiles are flowers. As the community knows, Bill is all about flowers and often can be seen selling poinsettias, chrysanthemums or hydrangeas in support of local charities.
Another well-known fact about Bill is his commitment to philanthropy. He’s been a fundraising force for a multitude of causes including Rotary International, Keystone, The Children’s Foundation, and of course NHH. This installation honours Bill as a fundraiser and his passion for raising funds by allowing others in the community to make a donation to sponsor one of the floral tiles. Over time as each tile becomes sponsored, Bill’s garden will grow. Not only will this add to the beauty, but it will allow the NHH Foundation to continue raising money, something that Bill has taught us so well.
“While this installation is officially named Bill’s Garden, we also honour Delphine,” states Linda Davis, President and CEO of NHH. “While Delphine made it clear from the start she wanted only Bill’s name on the garden, we do recognize how her support, leadership, quiet guidance, and organizational skills behind the scenes allow Bill to shine in all his endeavours. We know she likes to remain in the background but we want her to know how truly grateful we are for everything she does for this hospital.”
The art installation includes a plaque to tell the story of Bill’s Garden and reads as follows:
“This beautiful art tile garden is dedicated in honour of Bill Patchett in recognition of his outstanding volunteer leadership and financial support of Northumberland Hills Hospital.
Bill, along with his wife Delphine, have been long-time supporters of many community organizations. With their involvement, so many wonderful things have happened resulting is a stronger, more vibrant community. This hospital is one such example.
Thank you Bill and Delphine for helping our hospital to grow and flourish. We are grateful!”
