Events Specialist – One-Year Contract

The Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) Foundation is a dedicated group of enthusiastic volunteers and staff who are passionately committed to improving health care and the quality of life in our communities. Our purpose is to inspire generous giving to enable exceptional patient care at Northumberland Hills Hospital.

We are currently seeking to hire an experienced Events Specialist (30 hours/week) for approximately one year to fill a staff leave.

Reporting to the CEO, the incumbent will play a critical role leading and supporting the special events portfolio including the planning and execution of the 25th anniversary gala and Wine & Ale in the Park.  In addition, you are the primary staff resource to the lottery program.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced event fundraiser who has created and executed signature events. You are dynamic and able to run with just about any task thrown your way. A propensity to figure things out and learn on the job will serve you well in this role. Your organizational skills and attention to detail will ensure you do not miss a beat across multiple tasks in a busy office.  Your positive attitude and friendly demeanor will help you fit right in with the existing Foundation team, make friends and allies with Hospital staff, and engage with donors and community members who call or drop by our office.

As the Events Specialist, you will:

  • Build, nurture, and sustain internal and external relationships to support existing and new initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate the overall signature events portfolio including the 25th anniversary gala and Wine & Ale in the Park
  • Collaborate on the development of event related marketing, promotional and sponsorship materials including invitations, event programs, meeting materials, solicitation letters and other correspondence.
  • Act as a liaison to various event committees, organize, attend, record, and transcribe the minutes.
  • Actively promote the mission of the Foundation through presentations and participation in networking events
  • Prepare detailed business plans, including the establishment of milestones and budgets for respective fundraising activities; monitor and evaluate performance.
  • Prepare and facilitate meetings for purposes of planning, updating, information sharing and reporting to ensure milestones are achieved.
  • Act as an expert resource to guide and support the successful execution of events and projects.
  • Act as the in-house liaison for the lottery program, including execution, licensing, and promotion 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post-secondary Certificate or Degree in Business, Communications, Fundraising, Project Management, or related field
  • 3+ years’ experience in event coordination and/or fundraising.
  • Experience with community capacity building
  • Advanced skills in public relations, communications, and budgeting.
  • Dynamic leader who can motivate others.
  • Excellent persuasive written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with donors, volunteers, NHH staff and the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Proficiency with Canva or photo editing software.
  • A creative approach to problem solving.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Attention to detail and absolute commitment to accuracy.
  • Effective and collaborative team player, sharing information freely, working in a team to achieve overall goals.
  • Well organized, flexible, and able to effectively juggle multiple priorities efficiently under tight timelines and collaborate with peers.
  • High level of professionalism, credible and poised as a NHH Foundation representative.
  • Results oriented, self-directed with a drive to succeed personally and to support success.
  • CFRE accreditation or working towards is preferred.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge would be an asset.
  • Frequent local travel will be required; a valid driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle are therefore required.
  • From time to time, the ability to work after traditional hours will be required.
